Black Ops 6 (COD 2024): Teaser trailer, leaks, zombies, campaign, more
ActivisionMore details about Black Ops 6 are surfacing as we approach its launch. While not too much has been confirmed quite yet, plenty of leaks about its developer, campaign revamps, and the returning Zombies mode have come out. Here’s everything known about COD 2024 so far.
When Modern Warfare 2 was released in October 2022, it was initially expected to have a two-year life cycle for the first time. That theory was quickly dropped after Activision doubled down on delivering a “full annual premium release” in 2023, which turned out to be Modern Warfare 3.
With MW3’s life cycle nearing its end, many COD fans are wondering what the future has in store for Call of Duty. Although fans were unsure of exactly what to expect, the next game in the franchise has finally been confirmed.
Here’s everything currently known about Black Ops 6, including the first trailer for COD 2024 and various leaks about its content.

Black Ops 6: Expected release date
It’s too early for any specific release date to be locked in. However, the COD franchise has always released new entries in the final quarter of each calendar year, so it’s safe to assume the 2024 title will drop at some time in the Fall, most likely November 2024.
The official release date will be revealed on June 9, 2024, alongside Black Ops 6’s worldwide reveal at the Xbox Games Showcase event.
Black Ops 6: The Truth Lies teaser trailer
The first official trailer for Black Ops 6 was uploaded on May 23, 2024, to the Call of Duty YouTube channel. It features a short teaser of an unknown group covering the eyes of the four Mount Rushmore presidents with banners that read “The Truth Lies.”
Will Black Ops 6 have early access?
The latest reports from Windows Central claim Black Ops 6 will offer early access to those who pre-order. This early access is expected to let those eligible play certain game modes at least a week early.
Since both MW2 and MW3 offered early access for the campaign, this will most likely be true of COD 2024 too. However, it has also been suggested that this year’s Call of Duty will extend this to zombies too, and even release the PvE mode weeks ahead of its official launch.
What platforms will Black Ops 6 be released on?
Although Microsoft’s historic move to purchase Activision Blizzard cast doubts on the future of Call of Duty, Black Ops 6 is still expected to be released on the same platforms as MW3: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
Microsoft also signed a deal with Nintendo to bring future COD titles to their hardware as well. This means the new Call of Duty game could find its way onto Nintendo’s rumored Switch successor sometime in the future.
Both PC and Xbox players should also look forward to COD 2024 coming to Game Pass. Xbox boss Phil Spencer made it clear that this was their intention, albeit without providing a specific time frame as to when it will happen.
Which studio is developing Black Ops 6 (COD 2024)?
As expected of a Black Ops game, COD 2024 is being developed by Treyarch marking the studio’s first game since Black Ops Cold War.
Even then though, it is believed that Cold War started as Raven Software’s and then later Sledgehammer Games’ project with Treyarch taking over after issues surfaced. This means that Black Ops 6 will be Treyarch’s first game it has led from the start since Black Ops 4.
What is Black Ops 6’s setting and time period?
Black Ops 6 is expected to be set in the Gulf War, marking a first for the Call of Duty franchise. Activision has explored WW2, modern military combat, and even the distant future, but a COD game set in the 1990s is new territory.
The Gulf War was a conflict that started in 1990 and ended in 1991 between Iraq and a 42-country coalition led by the United States. The main countries involved were the USA, UK, France, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Kuwait.
This setting means that you can expect plenty of desert and sandy locations typical of the Middle East. Both multiplayer and the campaign alike are expected to feature multiple maps based on key locations in both Iraq and the Gulf War, giving light to a setting video games don’t explore too often.
Black Ops 6: Open World Campaign Revamp
Reports indicate Call of Duty is in store for a colossal shift to its single-player campaign. Rather than a standard linear campaign, like players have grown accustomed to, this year’s title looks to pivot to an open-world structure instead.
Akin to the likes of Ubisoft’s Far Cry series, this open setting will allow for fast travel through a vast open map, though with plenty of vehicles on the ground for those who would rather explore the area themselves.
This new approach featured a little in Modern Warfare 3 in its Open Combat missions, but these were just a small taste of what’s coming. More information on exactly what this campaign revamp will look like can be expected once Activision reveals Black Ops 6.
Black Ops 6: Round-based Zombies returns
Various sources have strongly indicated that round-based Zombies will return in Black Ops 6. The Windows Central report claimed Treyarch’s traditional round-based Zombies mode will be back once again in COD 2024, replacing MW3’s open-world alternative.
While the Zombies mode has appeared in recent Call of Duty games, these iterations have veered from the fan-favorite round-based structure. Looking to transform the game mode into something different, newer titles have favored open-world zombie modes like Outbreak and MWZ.
It is worth noting that even though round-based Zombies will make a return, this does not mean that will be the only version available. As seen in Black Ops Cold War, round-based and open world can co-exist, and Treyarch could very well look to appeal to fans of both formats.
Black Ops 6: Leaked weapons, perks, and streaks
A huge data mine for Black Ops 6 revealed over 130 weapons, perks, streaks, and equipment that will feature in the upcoming Call of Duty game.
This huge list confirmed the return of fan-favorite weapons like the AK-74, MP5, and FAL as well as exciting newcomers like the Grendel R31 and the original PP90.
It’s a similar story for Killstreaks, with classics like the RC-XD, Chopper Gunner, and Nuke all featuring in COD 2024. Those are in addition to the Handcannon, H.A.R.P, and Sniper’s Nest which are all brand new to Call of Duty.
