How many people play Warzone? Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 player count

Call of Duty has one of the largest and most consistent player bases which might make some curious as to how many people are still playing Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone along with Modern Warfare 3.

The original Warzone was a huge success for Call of Duty, changing the face of the franchise for good. Through the years 2020 and 2021, nothing dominated the gaming space more and the game reached its peak popularity, prompting a sequel shortly after.

Warzone 2 – later rebranded just Warzone – was a highly anticipated upgrade to the original, with many looking forward to its best weapons and new maps. If the changes made were enough to convince fans to stick around is up for debate.

With that in mind, here’s the Warzone, MW2, and MW3 player count as of May 2024.

As of May 31, 2024, the average number of players in the last 30 days on Steam for Call of Duty: Warzone is 73,850. This is slightly lower than the month prior when the average player count was 75,291.

The peak player count in April was 165,756, considerably higher than in March when the peak player count was just 119,465.

Call of Duty: Warzone, as part of Modern Warfare 3, is available for free on Steam. While other platforms like Xbox, PlayStation, and Battle.net do not disclose player data, Steam’s API allows for tracking accurate player numbers.

So, bear in mind that while these numbers are for Steam players only, they will give our best indication possible of how many people are playing Warzone and MW2 along with Modern Warfare 3.

Since Steam Charts doesn’t show the stats for just Modern Warfare 3, it’s hard to determine one game’s player count. Remember, this includes anyone on the Call of Duty app, so they could be playing Campaign, Multiplayer, Warzone, or DMZ.

How many people play MW2 and Warzone?

It’s impossible to know how many people are playing on other platforms exactly, but COD has always been a very popular series on console, so expect the peak on all platforms to be as much as 2 million concurrent players.

Modern Warfare 2 was the best-selling CoD release ever in the first weekend, generating $800 million in revenue in only three days.

Warzone is of course free-to-play, and that low barrier of entry saw player numbers surge sharply on Steam when it launched. However, over the years the numbers have dropped while also managing to remain consistently above 150,000 every month.
